Executive Director

The Executive Director (ED) has the overall responsibility for MSRI’s operation and reports and is answerable to the Board of Governors. We are looking for someone who:

  • Has the full capacity to lead an entire organisation and at the same time be a team player
  • Is highly fluent in both English and Malaysian languages (written and spoken)
  • Is capable of communicating and engaging effectively with people of various backgrounds

  • Possesses the willingness to build collaborative relationships with implementing partners, sponsors and funders

 

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Conceptualises and supervises the planning and implementation of MSRI’s programmes and policies
  • Supervises and guides senior programme management staff and carry out performance appraisals with HR
  • Oversees the overall financial planning, including the supervision of budgets for MSRI’s operation and programmes
  • Develops and coordinates fundraising efforts with the assistance of the programme management team and Funding Manager
  • Coordinates the submission of narrative and financial reports to the Board of Governors, the Malaysian authorities, and funders
  • Represents MSRI outside of the organisation at the appropriate level, including the media, Malaysian authorities and organisations, and internationally, as directed by the Board of Governors
  • Coordinates and supervises cooperation with local and international NGOs and funders
  • Develops and supervises the research and publications programme
  • Ensures all programmes and other matters pertaining to MSRI’s best interests are taken care of

 

Educational Qualification:

Advanced Degree in Social Science, Political Science, International Relations, Law, Business Administration, or any field related

 

Experiences Required:

  • A minimum of 10 years of management experience; preferably at NGOs
  • Previous experience in senior leadership role
  • Has in-depth knowledge and understanding of best practices in management and governance
  • Substantial work experience with disadvantaged and marginalised groups; preferably refugees and asylum-seekers

 

Essential Skills:

  • Highly proficient (both written and spoken) in English and Bahasa Malaysia
  • IT literate, especially in Microsoft Office, e-mail, social media, and the internet as a whole
  • Hands-on budget management skills; including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making and reporting
  • Strong organisational skills; including planning, delegating, programme development and task facilitation
  • Possesses a substantial knowledge of fundraising strategies and donor relations
  • Has the ability to convey the organisation’s vision of strategic future to staff, board members, volunteers and donors
  • Has the ability to collaborate with and motivate board members, staff and volunteers
  • Has the ability to engage with volunteer groups, donors, collaborating partners and refugee communities
  • Has in-depth knowledge about matters concerning refugees and asylum-seekers, especially in Malaysia and within the ASEAN region
  • Transparent and high integrity leadership
