Food Aid Programme

Sahabat Food Aid Programme (2018-2021)

The Sahabat Food Aid Programme was a monthly food aid disbursement programme that uses Smart Card Technology. Families who meet certain criteria - including household income, number of school-going children, single parents, and special needs - may register for the programme. Families may then use their Sahabat Smart Card to purchase up to RM120 of groceries at participating stores every month. The Sahabat Food Aid Programme provides a more dignified method of disbursing food aid to families in need, and helps to minimize food waste.

MSRI FOOD BANK PROGRAMME (2021)

The MSRI Food Bank Project was established during the height of pandemic lockdowns to provide refugees, asylum-seekers, and anyone impacted by restrictions with access to nutritious food.

The Food Bank gave out food staples, including rice, eggs, oil, sugar, salt, flour, and spices, as well as hygiene items. Additional items such as noodles, cereal, tea, milk powder, biscuits, and more were sometimes available when the Food Bank received additional funding or food donations. Participants registered online each week for a time slot to come to MSRI’s main office to pick up their items. The Food Bank ran from June 15, 2021 to November 8, 2021, and successfully provided food aid to 700 clients, including families, single parents, and individuals in need.

LOST FOOD PROJECT

The Lost Food Project (TLFP) is a Malaysian not-for-profit organisation dedicated to a sustainable future by rescuing ‘lost’ food and finding it a new home with people who need it most. MSRI has been working with TLFP to provide food items and especially fresh vegetables and fruits to the students and people who are in need of fresh vegetables and fruits.
